Frequently Asked Questions

Why?

Because we like creating stuff. Because of the smell of a warm tube amp or a hot soldering iron. Because of chimey speakers and stacked drives. Because of opening boxes full of little parts that come in the mail. Because of a more buttery sound if we swap out that part. Because of seeing the powder coat flow when it reaches temp. Because circuits and pedals and tone. If none of that made you smile, then you best just stick with "because we like it". Oh, and also did I mention we need money to feed our pedal habit?

Do you take orders?

Update: We will be posting regularly available items in our Online Shop at http://masonorousfx.com/shop, so be sure to check that out!

We usually mod stuff and breadboard things out the wazoo until we come up with something we think sounds good, design a layout for it, order boards and parts for a small run, post them on Instagram, and then sell them until we run out. If you want to find out when there are new pedals available, follow us on Instagram or visit us here at masonorousfx.com. If you have a special request, contact us and we'll consider it.

Why do you make pedals in runs of 3 or 6 at a time?

Choose your favorite answer, any of which might or might not be true:
  • Our basement is small
  • We get bored
  • It takes a lot of money to invest in large runs, and we don't have any
  • We were abducted for 3 days by aliens as children and since then can only do things in threes threes threes
  • It's a heady, deeply significant allusion to the number of the Trinity
  • The OSH Park PCB quantities
  • Because we like hand-making artistic things, and it's hard to do that in large quantities
  • Did I mention we get bored?
  • We have the attention span of a

When will you build more of your _____ pedal?

When Jupiter aligns with Mars during the vernal equinox. Or when it sounds like fun and there's enough interest in a given pedal being re-run. If you are just dying for something, contact us and we'll see if we can work something out.

Do you have any dealers where I can try a pedal?

Not yet, but we'd like to. Want to be one?

Why are your prices higher than ______'s?

They're pretty average prices for small-volume, boutique builders doing their own layouts for PCBs. It takes a lot less design time and capital investment to build one-offs on tagboard, and that's cool; it's just not what we've chosen to do. Also, you might have noticed that our pedals look different from most mass-produced pedals. The processes we use to get these looks are often 1) messy, 2) slow, 3) laborious, and quite frankly, a pain in the butt. The question you should be asking instead is, how are we insane enough to keep doing things that way? And the answer is, because we love making unique looking, artistic stuff, and we want to keep doing that.

What is your customer service/returns policy?

Contact us through the contact page and we'll help you out. A couple experienced gearheads thoroughly test and demo every pedal under diverse conditions before we sell it. If something appears to be our fault, email us and we will find a way to make it right in a way that is mutually beneficial. However, if the pedal is fried crispy from the crapfully cheap AC adapter you plugged in backward and/or smells suspiciously like the beer you spilled on it last night, then you will need to get a return authorization from us and ship the pedal back, and we will fix it and charge you for parts, labor, and return shipping. If you don't like that, go buy things from Guitar C3nter. It goes without saying that wear and tear takes its toll over time and sometimes accidents happen. We will do our best to resolve those situations in your favor when possible.

How do you ship, and what does it cost?

We offer free USPS Priority Mail shipping within the continental US. Other shipping methods are available upon request.
